Smith College is joining with the University of Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina to create the first American Studies department in southeastern Europe. Funded with a $200,000 grant from the United States State Department, the program is seen by Smith College as an important step in securing a mutual understanding between the two nations.

Spectrum plans to start off the spring semester with a great deal of excitement by bringing queer musician Catie Curtis to campus for the organization's largest fundraising event of the year.
Curtis, a New England native who currently lives in Boston, has toured with the Lilith Fair concert as well as such prominent artists as Dar Williams and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Senate learned about and discussed the National Tuition Endowment Act of 2005. This endowment, created by student leaders at Columbia University, would be partially funded by all interest generated from student loans, which would be billions of dollars that can return to students in the form of scholarships.

Student activists from artistic, sexual violence and HIV/AIDS-awareness organizations united to transform this year's SEXhibition celebration into a larger fundraiser for the local community. SAFE (Survivors and Allies For Education on Childhood Sexual Abuse and Incest) member Abby Weitzman '05 said she planned SEXhibition "to have one night of a sex-positive-taboo-breaking event.
