Gene mutation may increase alcoholism risk

A recent study performed by Dr. Esther van den Wildenberg from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands targeted a specific gene allele linked to alcoholism. The gene mutation involves a cell structure called the mu-opioid receptor. In previous studies, this receptor has been shown to bind a pain-relieving chemical that the body releases in response to alcohol intake and other stimuli.

Saturday, Feb. 17 - 2:42 p.m. Report of a fallen woman needing medical attention at the indoor track. The woman had possibly injured knee and was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital by ambulance.
