Contact Improv Evolves At Smith

Most people, when they think of dance, tend to imagine ballerinas in tutus, hip-hop dancers in baggy clothes or ballroom dancers in fancy dresses. To Steve Paxton, however, dance is "a contemporary game." Paxton is the creator of one of the most recent forms of dance, contact improvisation, also known as contact improv.

Smith Gives Students Chance to Work, Study in Washington

Smith students interested in spending part of their junior year off campus have the opportunity to spend a semester in Washington, D.C. The Jean Picker Semester-in-Washington program is a first-semester program open to Smith juniors and seniors. Students of all majors are welcome, yet they are strongly encouraged to have appropriate background in the social sciences.
