Reports are in: the political tsunami of 2008 struck the United States on Feb. 5. Fox news, CNN and Smith College students were there live to cover the event. The death toll is difficult to predict. Tsunami Tuesday, otherwise known as Super Tuesday, the highly anticipated presidential primary taking place across the nation, did not care if you were a Republican or Democrat when it hit.
Service Projects Marked MLK Day

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was designated in 1994 as a national day of service, and this year a number of Smith students and staff members spent their day giving back to the community.
Monday, January 21, around 60 registered volunteers decorated the Calvin Coolidge Nursing Center for Valentine's Day, painted a new office for Arise (a nonprofit group that advocates and offers support for individuals with disabilities of all kinds), read letters for the Prison Book Project or worked for the day with another local volunteer agency.

As part of Smith College's Black History Month activities, Elaine Brown, the first and only woman to lead the Black Panther Party, spoke in Weinstein Auditorium Monday night. Brown's talk focused on the question: "Where do we go from here?"

REAL WORLD CASTING CALL AT UMASS
MTV will hold an open casting call for Season 21 of The Real World on Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the UMass Student Union Ballroom. People between the ages of 18 and 24 are welcome to audition. Applicants must bring a recent picture of themselves and photo ID.
