Barbara Hurd Comes to Read Underground

On April 24 at 7 p.m. in Seelye 106, the Kahn Institute will hold the last event for the project Undergrounds Underworlds. Barbara Hurd, a professor at Frostburg State University, editor for the literary publication Nightsun and award-winning author, will be reading some of her work.

Marlowe Dieckmann '09 could not keep her eyes off her phone in the tense moments before she found out that she would be the next SGA president. "I was pretty much just holding my phone and staring at it," Dieckman said. Before long, the phone rang, and Emily Taylor '08, the current SGA president, called Dieckmann with the good news.

With over 2 million articles and over 684 million visitors, it is no surprise that Wikipedia was recently hailed as the largest, fastest-growing and most popular general reference work currently available on the Internet by Time magazine. The Wikipedia phenomenon has become so huge that it has inspired several spin-offs, such as Uncyclopedia, a Wikipedia parody, and Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki.

Q & A With New Class Presidents

SGA President was not the only student leader elected last Thursday. Aliza Leventhal '09, Elaine Harris '10 and Keturah Edwards '11 each became president of her respective class and will assume office in the fall. Aliza Leventhal, Class of 2009 President Q: What do you hope to do as president? What are your responsibilities? What are your plans? Leventhal: My goal as senior class president is to really unite my class through various events and help build a community, not only between seniors - both traditional and Ada Comstock scholars - but have seniors help to build the Smith community.
