Senate began this week with a call to oder at 7:05 p.m. and a roll call to determine if Senate met quorum. SGA VP Megan Ambrus then asked the Senate if Lindsey York, Senate Secretary, had all the Senators' names and e-mail addresses.
Two announcements were then made to the Senate. The first announcement was that the Celebration committee meets in the lower level of the Campus Center at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. The second announcement was that elections will be held from October 5 until October 7. The elections will include voting for first year class officers in the SGA.
The minutes were then passed, with six abstentions. The Senate then discussed the College Community Service Initiative. Hannah Durrant, Assistant Director of Residence Life, presented the Senate with both the campus community service program and the sustainability efforts program.
According to Durrant, each house can choose which program they would like to do. At the end of March, houses will put together a portfolio about what they have accomplished over the year. A committee will then choose a winner, and that house will be given $1,000 to donate to the charity of its choice.
The senate then discussed goals for the upcoming year. Issues discussed by the Senate included a PVTA Quad or Green Street bus stop, guest policy, 24 hour One Card swiping, gender-safe places, and increased dining hours, as well as a few others.
The Senate determined three main goals for the year out of the proposed five. The first goal was better publicity in form of a "Senate board" in the Campus Center. The next goal was to get more safety light around the Smith campus. The third goal was a Senate suggestion box for each house.
The Senate then went over parliamentary procedure, including the four actions of a Senator: to present a motion, to second a motion, to debate a motion, and to vote on a motion. Senators went over the agenda of the Senate as well. The agenda started with the call to doer and the minutes and then continued with announcements, report of special committees, unfinished business, new business, announcements and adjournment.
Finally the Senate split up into committees and then went over closing announcements. Lastly, the Senate adjourned.
