How and when did you originally start playing squash?

I actually just started playing here, at Smith, last year - I went to the gym to work out, and I saw that Tim - our coach - was holding a racket sports clinic.... I went to the clinic, picked up a squash racket, and I was hooked!

What's your favorite thing about the sport?

I like the intensity of each rally. You run your guts out, feel like you're going to puke, and then suddenly the point is over. You have maybe 15 seconds to catch your breath, and then you serve again. Mentally refocusing yourself is really important, but it's definitely one of the hardest things to do, especially in the heat of a game.

How did you spend your winter break?

Playing squash! We had practices twice a day for two hours during J-term, and we competed in a few tournaments as well. I think the team has showed definite improvement as a result of all our hard work during January.

What is your favorite class that you've taken at Smith so far and why?

Education in the City with Professor Intrator, definitely. It's the class that got me interested in pursuing a major in education and child studies.

What's currently on your iPod?

I'm going through a Blondie/Van Morrison/Duran Duran phase...a lot of classic rock tunes that I listen to in the morning to get me pumped up for the day.

Do you follow any particular professional sports teams?

Nope. There are a few individual athletes that I am particularly enamored with, though. Like Michael Phelps - he's frickin' awesome!

If they made a movie based on your life, what would it be called?

"When Life Gets Tough, the Tough get Going!" Cheesy, I know. In high school, I sustained several knee and ankle injuries that took me out of commission for a while...that was the motto that kept me going. I think it's from "The Lion King," which is a quality movie.

If you could play a game of squash with any fictional character, who would you pick and why?

Definitely Aragon from "Lord of the Rings." He would give me a run for my money. And he's also extremely hot.
