Full Service, a reggae-infused rock band from Austin, Texas, will be performing at the Iron Horse Music Hall on Friday, Nov. 6, at 10 p.m. Recently, brothers "Hoag" and "Bonesaw" discussed the band, their music and everything else you never knew you needed to know.
Q: Let's start off with an introduction. Who exactly is Full Service?
Hoag: Full Service is a collection of four guys who compete against each other in various contests that test our agility, finesse, strength and awareness of the pick-and-roll and give-and-go; who support each other in times of need, ridicule each other in times of cramped quarters, touring; and dip, sway, head bang, chant and sing with each other while on stage.
Q: Can you tell me how the band got started? How long have you guys been together as a group?
H: We've been together since we were all carpenter ants in our previous lives. Bonesaw issued orders and we obeyed them. He said, "Gather food," so we gathered it and then stored it. We lived lives with such accomplishment and benevolence that the Creator promoted us to human beings in our next lives. This gave us the opportunity we had been looking for ever since time began, the opportunity to start a rock band that would one day bring peace and harmony to the earth.
Q: So, you guys are a long way from home. What are you doing all the way up here in the lovely region of Western Massachusetts known as the Pioneer Valley?
Bonesaw: Actually, I spent my formative college years in the Pioneer Valley at Amherst College! The first iteration of "Full Service" has actually played several shows at Smith College house parties that I'm sure nobody remembers - both because they're not there anymore and because those parties were pretty wild! Though I don't miss the frigid winters where my hair would freeze solid on the way to breakfast in the morning, I can't wait to get back for a visit in the fall.
Q: Tell me a little bit about the take-over tour you guys masterminded. Where did the idea come from? Would you say it has opened doors for you?
