I would say basically any way that I can avoid jeans at this point. Right now, I have been obsessed with these long tube socks I got from Acme Surplus. I wear tube socks, boots, skirts and oversized sweaters. So, I wear anything summery that I can make wintry.
Do you like a more polished or relaxed look?
In general, I would say more relaxed. It is more comfortable to wear a loose skirt than a tight skirt and a button-up tucked in. And professional clothes tend to be more expensive, and I don't have any money to buy those clothes.
Do you have a favorite piece of clothing?
I wear my yellow coat a lot, and I pretty much only have two pairs of shoes: harness boots I got at a flea market and these gray knee-high boots. I re-wear those things a lot.
Where do you like to shop in Northampton?
The last time I went to Urban Outfitters was when there was a $10 sale. I usually go to Chicopee, Mass., where there is Savers, which is a better, bigger version of Salvation Army. It is not a vintage store at all. It is just a thrift store.
What are you wearing right now?
My buckle boots, tube socks from Acme, my mom's tights, a skirt from the Urban sale section, an American Apparel tri-blend tank and a Faces hoodie that I bought my freshman year.
Do you take any fashion risks?
I wear what I think is cool or cute even though it is a little weird sometimes. I also wear really, really short things. I have absolutely no qualms about wearing short dresses or really low-cut things, since I don't think I could ever be a slut if I tried. Mixing patterns is also totally fine with me.
How do you maneuver in those super-short dresses?
Sometimes I wear bike shorts underneath them. If you cut bike shorts so they are a little bit shorter and you don't technically see them, that works. I think the '90s are totally back with tiny flower-print dresses and bike shorts.
Does weather ever control what you wear?
Yes, it does. It gets freezing here. I was in L.A. last year, and I wore summery stuff all the time. So, trying to switch my wardrobe over to winter has meant just a lot of layers.
Where do you get fashion inspiration?
I am a very observant person and I spend a lot of my time seeing what people are wearing. Also, my friends inspire me all the time, which is how I got obsessed with really long boots and really long socks. I think Nylon is a good magazine if you don't have any money. They wear a lot of thrift-store clothes in a cool way. I have favorite designers, but I can't afford any of that stuff.
