Pioneers defeat Husson

On Saturday the Pioneers came out of the pool with a win over Husson College. Smith athletes were triumphant in 11 out of 16 events, earning the team a 183-106 victory that raised their record to 3-3 in dual meets.

Senior Co-Captain Faith Latella, returning to the pool after knee problems, turned in a pair of impressive performances, placing first in the 100 and 50 freestyles, the latter in a season-best time of 26.86.

First-years Michelle Mai and Rachael Gainer took the top two spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:56.29 and 13:04.94, respectively, while junior Lily Seidman finished first in the 100 and 200 flys in 1:03.25 and 2:46.91.

Rachel Dorset '10 won the 500 free with a time of 5:59.84. Co-Captain Christine Dzialo '10 took the 200 individual medley in 2:28.68. The Smith team of Dzialo, Alex Page '12, Rachel Dean '13 and Mackenzie Bradley '13 placed first in the 200 free relay in 1:54.45.

Lifetime- and season-best performances were turned in by Charlotte Mailly '12 (season best in the 200 free, 2:20.36), Rebecca Rosen '12 (lifetime best in the 100 free, 1:02.66), and Michelle Cotrite '13 (lifetime best in the 200 IM in 2:45.60). Dean shaved four seconds from her previous best time in the individual 200 free (2:33.26).

On the diving side, Isabelle Harper '13 and Karen Fryefield '12 placed one-two, respectively, in both the one- and three-meter events.

The Pioneers will be back in the water versus Mount Holyoke this Saturday at 1 p.m.
